Most people unknowingly set up their desks facing a wall with their backs to the door. This leaves them feeling vulnerable.
Humans are animals...yup, you read that right! Humans are animals...with animal instincts. These instincts are left over from when predators wanted to eat you.
Your instincts tell you to protect yourself. If you can't see what is happening behind you or who is entering your space then you feel distracted, unfocused and exposed. You can't fully relax which means you can't fully engage in your work.
The optimal arrangement for your desk is facing away from the wall so you can see everything in front of you.
This usually means your desk is floating in the space with your back protected by the wall behind you.
